On Thursday, April 21, Wilbur Wright College in Chicago held its 16th annual Earth Day event. Nearly 400 students, staff, and faculty visited 26 exhibits and presentations, which this year included a voter registration table with a list of candidate environmental policies and an air quality action day table.
In addition, there were screenings of two water conservation films, and a tree planting ceremony (three Bur Oak saplings – Wright is an Arbor Day Foundation Tree Campus®) officiated by Wright President, Dr. David Potash.
Presentations hosted by students from the Environmental Club (water conservation), the Science & Technology Club (wind turbines), American Chemical Society Club (renewables), and Pre-pharmacy Club (pharmaceutical waste disposal) were well attended. Also very popular were outside exhibitors Elevate Energy and Vegan Outreach.
Earth Day is the capstone program each year for the Student-led Wright Environmental Club, and this year’s event won two awards, for educational programming and community building, from their peers in the Student Government Association.
